Matt is the Founder, Owner, and Head Coach of Sequoia CrossFit. He went from being a 6-year-old in leg braces who doctors said would never run, to an all-state lacrosse player, IronMan triathlete, GORUCK HCLS finisher, Spartan trifecta-holder, and CrossFit competitor.

He combines his decade of management of 5-star, luxury hotels and his broad fitness experience to develop exciting, comprehensive programs for athletes of all ages to achieve their fitness goals!

Chris Jacobs

CrossFit Coach

Chris’s CrossFit journey started in a garage in Utah over five years ago, but it wasn’t until 2016 that he really fell in love with the sport of fitness. He completed his CF-L1 in November 2018 and has been coaching ever since in both recreational gyms and now at Sequoia CrossFit. Chris has an extensive background competing in and coaching gymnastics, so those are naturally his favorite movements.

Ariel Castro

Nutrition Coach

Ariel is a student at UC Berkeley in Nutritional Sciences, Metabolism, and Physiology. She has a passion for the science of nutrition and teaching others how to create sustainable diets that fit into their everyday lives while supporting their body and their goals. Ariel has a background as a swimmer, water polo player, and a mixed martial artist, and has completed her CF-L1. Her favorite movements to practice and teach are foundations and the Olympic lifts.

Dr. Mandy Chan


Mandy first found CrossFit in 2012 when looking for a way to strength train for Ultimate Frisbee. On a whim, she signed up for an intro class just to "give it a shot," and the rest, as they say, is history. She loved the group dynamic of CrossFit classes and constantly varied programming so much she began competing in local throw-downs and went for her L1 to start coaching.

Mandy enjoys empowering others to break through perceived limitations in both health and fitness. As a practicing chiropractor, she is also a stickler for form, movement patterns, and proper muscle engagement. Outside of the gym, Mandy continues to be an avid Ultimate Frisbee player, movement enthusiast, and adventure-seeker.
